The Risham Sarao Sixth Form Centre Appeal

We are seeking to raise £500,000 to enable us to begin building our state-of-the-art Sixth Form Centre. In keeping with the School’s aims, we plan to build a specialist centre to prepare our Sixth Form students for life beyond school.

The Risham Sarao Sixth Form Centre will:
• Provide a dedicated space for our Sixth Form students to study
• Be a centre for university and careers resources, where students will be able to receive advice and support from specialist staff
• Expand our provision for independent study, collaborative learning and research
• Provide a valuable Sixth Form social space
• Be a lasting memorial to Old Chigwellian, Risham Sarao.

We have secured planning permission to build on the edge of TopField, where we currently have Penn’s house. Not only will this site put the Sixth Form Centre at the heart of the Senior School, close to the four day houses, it also completes the semi-circle of buildings around Top Field. The architects, BHM, have worked with local planners to develop a design that complements the historic buildings adjacent to the Centre. In the future, we plan to develop the Sports Hall and restore the Chapel and therefore the Sixth Form Centre is one element in this sequence of projects, planned to enhance the facilities that we offer current and future pupils.

This exciting project has already been well supported by a number of very generous donors including the family of Risham Sarao, an outstanding Chigwell student, who died at the age of 21 in a tragic road accident in Peru. She was, in the words of her family, ‘a true product of Chigwell’. We are keen to begin construction as soon as possible but we now need to complete our fundraising. I hope that you will be able to support us as generously as you can.
