This year, Chigwell School Archives went to Glasgow! As the School’s archivist, I was invited to present a paper at the annual Archives and Records Association Conference, attended by over 250 delegates.
My presentation was focused on the contributions of Chigwell School pupils to the archives. The key case studies included letters home from pupils in the 1790s, an 1890s cartoon of teaching staff, Fred Barker’s (OC 1924-1933) Scrapbook Album, and letters to Arnold Fellows (Staff 1924-1959). These items provided excellent material for discussion on the conference theme of ‘Authenticity’, and gave new insights into children’s experience of Chigwell School, beyond the details that administrative records can provide.
Do you have any pieces of art or writing that you made whilst a pupil at Chigwell School? Please share them with us by emailing the address at the bottom of this page, or post them to Maya Frampton at Chigwell School.
